Bobbie Stearn Painter

Biography:
Bobbie Stearn’s arts career is multi-faceted. She has been a ballet dancer, a well-known interior designer and is now a visual artist and published writer. At age 7 she started ballet lessons and soon performed on stage, on TV and starred in a short film shown on Saturday morning children’s television. As a teenager she studied at the New York High School of Performing Arts, made famous in the movie and TV program FAME, and at the American Ballet Theater and Martha Graham Studio.

Bobbie started painting in 1964 in Orange County, California studying with local artists and teachers. Shortly, however, the time available for painting was diminished by the demands of raising three children and running a large interior design corporation that she founded. Her interior design work won numerous awards and was published in Professional Builder Magazine and The Los Angeles Times among other publications.

Now retired in Sedona with her husband Harvey, a professional photographer, Bobbie devotes her time to writing and painting. Her style is impressionistic with a vibrant palette. She works in oils, watercolors, and pastels. Her subjects are the figure both nude and draped, still life compositions and Sedona’s magnificent landscapes.

Bobbie was honored as the featured artist at the Spring 2006 Tempe Festival of the Arts. Her oil painting “Reflections at Red Rock Crossing” was selected as the featured painting and its image appeared on all the festival posters, banners and collateral. The informational poster and the art poster, both featuring Bobbie’s painting, won the silver and gold AzTEC Awards for the best regional Event Posters for a festival attracting over 20,000 attendees. Her work is currently on view at the Sedona Arts Center and the Manheim Gallery in Old Town Cottonwood.

She is a member of the Sedona Visual Artists Coalition, The Arizona Plein Air Painters and the Sedona Arts Center. Her paintings were featured during the month of October 2008 in the Sedona Arts Center Gallery and in January 2009 at The Manheim Gallery. Her work has recently been included in the 2009 APAP annual show, SAC members show, miniature show, and pin-up show, the Sedona Visual Artists Coalition art exhibitions “Sleep On It”, “Home Is”, “Behind Closed Doors”, and “The Water Show”, The Jewish Community of Sedona’s exhibition “Our Dreams Take Root”, the Tempe Festival of the Arts and the Sedona Arts Festival, the inaugural exhibit at the new Orchard’s Restaurant, the inaugural exhibit at The Annabel Inn in Cottonwood, and Canyon Moon Gallery at which she won an audience award.

Statement:
When I am painting, I feel as if I am singing in vibrant color. My work is joyous, spontaneous, fluid and colorful. I paint what I love: the landscape, the human form, and flowers.
