You may contact us via judy@sedonaartistscoalition.org or for more information contact Judy Mendoza HISTORY: Founded in 1996 by Nancy Robb Dunst, the Coalition started having "Artists Gatherings" with eight artists in the community. The purpose was to pull artists together to develop a common bond. The group has grown to over 200 artists and is now known as the Sedona Visual Artists Coalition. The organization has been involved with designing collaborative sculptures in the West Sedona Park; painting an art car for the Scottsdale Contemporary Museum Car parade, representing artists on the Sedona Arts & Culture Commission, initiating and writing art columns in the local newspaper. We also set up visits to different artists studios and foundries and are politically active in regard to the Arts. The group has held exhibitions at Imagine Art, Sedona City Hall, the Sedona Art & Technology Center, Old Market Place and the beautiful space at Tlaquepaque "Over Rene's" in Sedona. The exhibition, "Embracing Time: A Celebration Of Aging" was a traveling exhibit which went to Flagstaff, Tucson, Phoenix, as well as Sedona. As a community service, The Coalition has chosen to have an annual exhibit about a community issue such as 'Water", "Home", and this past year's fall exhibition was titled "Random Acts of Art Show." The theme was about the importance of creativity in life. We repeat venues in November 2007 at Tlaquepaque "Over Rene's" with a "Random Acts of Art II." We have not yet decided on our subtitle. In February 2007 we will team up with Sedona Public Library and produce our first "Book Transformed Show," we return in April to the library to create a show titled "Sustainable Visions". We hold "Open Studios" every May. We logged in around 1,500 guests last event. The 2007 event will be held May 5 and 6. Opening reception will be held at the Sedona Radisson Poco Diablo Resort on May 4, 2007. We publish a monthly Bulletin that tells members of up and coming events, opportunities, and membership profiles. We are developing a mentoring program for students of all ages. The organization has been involved in the process of presenting Sedona city council candidate's for the Arts Forum. The Sedona Visual Artists Coalition is a Community of 200 plus professional artists in greater Sedona and the surrounding area, they work in different mediums: photography, oil and acrylics, mixed media, watercolor, fiber, wood, glass, ceramics, metal, and film. This group comes together to share work and techniques, opportunities and events, and in general have a friendly inspiring experience. We work toward developing an artist community, which is educational and exploratory in the visual arts. Our community service is to raise the consciousness in the community by choosing an important and controversial issue and creating an exhibition about it. This gives the opportunity for the community to look at an issue "through a different door…." The Sedona Visual Artists Coalition is a 501c3. Thank you again for visiting us.
