Open Studios 2010

At the December 3 SVAC Board Meeting, it was concluded not to further pursue Open Studios in the spring of 2010 for the following reasons:

No one volunteered to chair or co-chair the event
Poor turnout at the orientation meeting at the library
Unlikely or little (city) funding support
Perceived over saturation of artist open home/studios and other shows this fall
Maybe it is time to take a break from the event and re-energize it in 2011.

We are sorry to disappoint those of you who were looking forward to participating in and visiting the studios. If you feel strongly about keeping Open Studios for the future, please let board members know that, and consider chairing the event. It is necessary to have organizers for any event to occur.

Meanwhile, we are happy to announce a proposal which is being pursued for a juried exhibition this spring. The past SVAC surveys have indicated this is something membership would welcome. Along with the show, there will be an accompanying book showcasing the artists. Jerry Buley is chairing this effort. More information on this will be forthcoming and it will be discussed at the next general meeting, January 21 at KSB.
